The 1968 reissue of the Custom model prompted Gibson to adopt the maple cap, reminiscent of the revered 1958-1960 "burst" models. Several other adjustments were introduced during this era, such as the removal of the dot from the "i" in the Gibson logo, a three-piece mahogany neck, a "made in the USA" stamp behind the headstock, a headstock volute, and the use of "witch hat" knobs or "speed knobs".

This particular LP Custom has a very skinny neck profile with just a little bit of shoulder allowing the player to crawl up and down the fingerboard with ease. The guitar has had a professional re-fret and plays true from the first to last fret. Gibson's cherry sunburst finish has a very wide golden yellow center with a thin strip of red bordering the binding. The original gold Tune-O-Matic bridge, stop tail, knobs and strap buttons are included in the case. The case is not original.

This 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom is in very good condition. The neck has plenty of wear from the first to twelfth fret exposing the three-piece mahogany neck. The body shows dings dents and scratches across. There is some play wear above the Tune-O-Matic bridge from a previous player resting their palm. The binding has aged to a nice golden yellow. The original owner carved their driver license number on the back of the headstock right below the "Made in the U.S.A" stamp. It has had a fresh setup with 10-46 D'addario XT strings.
