2022, Domaine d'Eugénie, VOSNE-ROMANÉE, 'Clos d'Eugénie'The 2022 Vosne Romane Le Clos d'Eugnie includes 40% whole bunches this vintage. It has a backward nose, the fruit darker than on the Vosne Villages, crushed stone filtering through the dark red fruit. Very tight. The palate is medium bodied with a sapid entry, touches of oyster shell complementing the cranberry and raspberry fruit on the finish that will hopefully gain a tad more persistence. but this is less elegant than many another Volnay

The core of fruit here is so pure

broad shouldered and layered

here framed with a micro grain of subtly drying tannin

nice balance

cedar and cigar box emerge with time and lend more complexity

1-2 pump-overs per day with a few punch-downs at the end of fermentation

the tannins are ripe and nicely covered by the fruit

Broad-shouldered and generously proportioned flavours are quite pliant yet they immediately tighten up on the sappy and mouth coating finish that delivers fine complexity and persistence

but you are going to get more joy from this 2009 than you will with the 2010 vintage for at least the next five years

A touch of sea spray comes through with time and eventually gains admirable intensity
